This site is intended to be a repository for documents and information regarding our Markham/Marcum and Hughes genealogy. Here you’ll find biographies of my Grandparents in the Markham line, and a biography for my maternal Hughes line. There are also many original and transcribed probate documents. Our family tree is here (there are two options, one which links to the RootsMagic site where it is hosted and the other using TNG Genealogy which is an extension of this site). This site is a work in progress, more docs and information will be added over time.
My Markham immigrant ancestor is Deacon Daniel Markham. He appeared in the colonies in 1655, coming from Earls Colne, Essex, England to Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony at the age of 14. By 1678 he was in Middletown, Hartford, Connecticut. He became a Deacon of the First Church and lived in Middletown the rest of his life.
Why Markham and Marcum? My dad was born Theodore Edward Markham. After separating from his first wife, he changed his surname to Marcum. He did this as his mother’s maiden name was Marcum. Thus, I’m a Marcum by birth, and a Markham by lineage.
